Recommended Undergarments & Alterations for Bridal Gowns

A-Line or Ball Gown:

For A-Line or Ball gowns we recommend a thong or brief bodysuit with smoothing and shaping support for the mid-section. The Honeylove Queen Brief has strong mid-section contour while seamlessly covering your bottom. It is available in 5 shades and sizes XS-3X. Additionally, for full body coverage, we recommend the Spanx Suit Your Fancy Shaping Strapless Cupped Mid-Thigh Bodysuit. With built in cups and firm compression, the additional straps can be added if your dress can conceal them.

Slit:

HELPFUL TIPS FOR ALTERATIONS

Alterations should be expected to achieve the perfect fit and length, and are not included.

  • We recommend having your measurements (bust, waist, hip and height) professionally taken by a bridal salon, tailor or seamstress for the most accurate recordings.

  • We always recommend seamless underwear and if possible, no bra in favor of having your tailor fit bust cups to your gown.

  • Bust measurement is NOT the same as bra size.

  • If you are on a weight loss program we recommend ordering based on current measurements and altering the dress when it arrives. Dresses can typically be altered 2 sizes down while maintaining the integrity of the style.

Most tailors require appointments! We recommend at least 4-8 weeks for bridesmaid alterations and at least 8-12 weeks for bridal alterations. Depending on the style of dress, you should expect to have about 1-3 fittings. Prices will vary from tailor to tailor, and typically an estimate will be given during the first fitting.

Make sure you wear the undergarments (shape wear, etc.) to your fittings as well as a pair of shoes with the correct heel height that you will be wearing.
